Comments on the Work

Susan as an avid paddler comes to the world of water and canoes describing herself as an artist "that can't stop painting now." Her goal is to try and make sense of this world. Her work "October Morning" included in the canoe collection is a prime example of her desire to find perfect moments on the water and explore those moments through techniques of colour and unique light situations. A canoeist glides along the surface of the water utilizing a kayak paddle, the bright orange of the paddle contrasts with the glassy turquoise water, bands of white reflected light seem to push the canoe away from a misty far shore and into the gaze of the viewer. The artist has described her approach to painting as "providing a visual journey, as your eye travels up through the painting, taking in the water, the shoreline, horizon, sky and perhaps for .a few moments thru this journey we imagine ourselves there."
